The National Library of China is a venue for the preservation and display of national edition resources, consisting of Wenhan Pavilion, the central headquarter, Wenji Pavilion, Xi'an Branch, Wenrun Pavilion, Hangzhou Branch, and Wenqin Pavilion, Guangzhou Branch, with the headquarter located at No. 1, Wenhan Road, Changping District, Beijing.

All the venues are built on the mountain, and all the venues of the National Library of China are set up with display area, preservation area, cave collection area and exchange area, etc. It is the total library of national edition resources and the gene pool of Chinese culture seeds, fulfilling the duty of preserving and inheriting national edition resources.

Architectural Features

The design of the National Publications Hall of China is based on the ‘Overall Characteristic’ design, which highlights culture, inheritance and identity, and demonstrates the long history of Chinese culture. The reason why each venue of the National Publications Museum of China is built on the mountain is to focus on the main theme of ‘hiding the cultural seeds in the famous mountains and transmitting them to the future generations’.

Central Main Hall

Dunhuang elements are an important element in the design of the Central General Hall of the National Publications Museum of China. The building draws on the charm of the nine-storey building of the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang and integrates it into the copper culture, with copper doors, windows, eaves and decorative strips of pure copper made of copper by Ruimao Copper.

Copper doors, copper windows, copper eaves, copper decorative strips, copper ceiling made of pure copper make the building as elegant and solemn as a temple. The hand-forged copper pattern is rich in texture and clear. The Wenhan Pavilion in the main hall, as a representative space of Chinese book collection culture, is located at the north end of the central axis, which is the high point of the whole building sequence.
